I had a moment at Easter

I had a moment this Easter that I can’t stop thinking about.

I was at my daughter’s house for the holiday and ran to the store in the morning. Of course, I forgot one of the most important things… eggs. So back to the store I went.

The place was packed. Carts everywhere. People rushing around trying to grab last-minute items. I finally got my eggs and was heading out when a young boy pushed his cart quickly around the corner and almost ran right into me.

Before I could even say anything, his mom gently said, “Johnny, that is not good.”

I smiled and said, “It’s okay.”

But she looked at him and said, “No, it’s not. I’m teaching you to learn manners and to think about others.”

In that moment my heart just burst.

It reminded me that teaching kids kindness and awareness does not take long speeches or complicated lessons. Sometimes it takes just a few seconds. A small moment. A gentle correction. A reminder to think about someone else.

And when kids learn this, you can see it. They feel proud. They feel good. They start to understand that their actions matter.

Moments like that are exactly why I love teaching life skills to kids.

When you become a life skills coach, you get to experience these moments with your students all the time. You get to watch kids learn something simple and powerful and then see the pride on their faces when they get it right.

It’s one of the best feelings in the world.

And it reminds me every time… kids are ready to learn these skills. They just need someone to show them.
